What can you do to improve your immune function?

gschultzdc

With the recent pandemic, we have incorporated measures to prevent the spread of germs and disease. And although reducing the spread is a good thing, are you doing anything to prepare your body to fight disease?

The flu epidemic of 1918 was the worst flu virus in recent history, and is a reason we have a flu vaccine today. The death rate during that pandemic was greater than 2.5%, which is very high.

National data from that time showed that 1,142 chiropractors collectively treated 46,394 patients during the epidemic and of the chiropractic patients treated, only 54 died from the flu during the epidemic. That means that chiropractic patients had a death rate of 0.1% from the flu, as opposed to the 2.5% of non-chiropractic patients during that time.

Although this is raw data, there are other studies that show chiropractic care actually increases white blood cell counts. For example, a 1994 study from the National College of Chiropractic in Lombard, Illinois showed a 48% increase of white blood cells in HIV patients 15 minutes after a chiropractic adjustment, while individuals not under chiropractic care showed a 7.4% decrease.

So, what can you do to improve your immune function?
